Kindling is a site-specific installation of portraits of a group of elderly residents who have participated in a series of workshops with the artist. During the process, they were invited to express their personal insights about relationships and aging - it’s gains and losses, challenges and fluctuating temporalities, asking, “What does it mean to grow old?”

Responding to their experiences and stories, each person is photographed with a memory they hold dear. Be it family heirlooms, a handmade gift returned after a loved one’s passing, a warm embrace, unfulfilled dreams or rituals of womanhood. The first presentation of these images was part of a site-specific exhibition in the neighbourhood environment of Chong Pang where these images were created.
